SMS Opt-In Process

How Storiecue Collects Consent for Text Messages

Last updated April 18, 2026

Storiecue is a family storytelling platform based in San Antonio, TX. This page documents exactly how we collect consent before sending any SMS text message through our platform. It is intended for compliance review, carrier verification, and public transparency.

How the SMS Feature Works

Registered Storiecue users can send storytelling prompts ("cues") to loved ones via SMS. Each cue is a one-to-one, user-initiated text message tied to a specific storytelling prompt. This is not bulk messaging, marketing, or automated outreach. Before any message is sent, the sender must confirm that the recipient has agreed to receive the text.

The Consent Flow

Step 1

A registered user composes a cue inside the Storiecue app.

The user selects a storytelling prompt (or writes their own), enters the recipient's name and mobile phone number, and chooses SMS as the delivery method.

Step 2

The user is shown a consent confirmation screen.

Before the message can be sent, the user must check an unchecked consent box containing the following language:

"I confirm that [Recipient Name] has agreed to receive a text message from Storiecue on my behalf. By checking this box, I acknowledge that Storiecue will send one SMS to this person containing a storytelling prompt and a link to respond. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. The recipient can reply STOP to opt out at any time."

The checkbox is not pre-checked. The Send button is disabled until the user actively checks the box. Links to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are displayed directly beneath the checkbox.

Step 3

The consent event is logged.

When the user checks the box and sends the cue, Storiecue records the sender's user ID, the recipient's phone number, a timestamp, and the cue ID. This record is retained as proof of opt-in.

Step 4

The recipient receives a single SMS message.

The recipient receives one text message containing the storytelling prompt, a link to respond, and required disclosures. The full message format:

Hi [Name], someone who loves you sent you a story prompt through Storiecue: What is a meal that always brings you back to a specific moment? Tap here to respond: https://storiecue.com/RespondToCue/[id]. Reply HELP for help. Reply STOP to unsubscribe. Msg & data rates may apply.

What the Recipient Sees

Below is a screenshot of the live RespondToCue page a recipient lands on after clicking the link in their SMS message.

Step 5

The recipient controls their experience.

Recipients can reply STOP at any time to opt out of all future Storiecue text messages. Replying HELP returns contact information for support. Recipients who land on the response page are shown a footer with opt-out instructions and links to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
